COVID-19 Update

For now, anyone who had signed up for a class in March/April/May/June, I am postponing them. Dates will be determined as soon as I am given the green light to use the market kitchen once again.

If you have purchased a spot in a class that has to be postponed and would like to hold your spot, no action is required on your part. I will be in touch and give you a full list of classes and dates that are available once the market kitchen is back up and running (before I let anyone else know of the dates so you can ensure your spot).

If you would like a refund, please reach out to me and I will issue that for you. Please keep in mind that each class has a limited number of spots and I cannot guarantee a spot will be available for you if a refund is issued. If you hold your spot but the postponed date doesn’t work for you, a refund can be issued up to 7 days prior to the class date.

We offer cooking classes for all ages!

Where?
Our cooking classes take place on the second floor of the Covent Garden Market in the Market Kitchen.

When?
Classes take place each month and spots sell out fast. If we don’t have any spots available, subscribe to our mailing list at the bottom of this page to stay “in-the-know” on upcoming classes and dates. You can also gather a group and book a private class.

Who can take the class?
Whether you’re new to cooking or would like to refine your skills, we welcome all ages and culinary experience. We promise that you’ll learn something new and leave with new skills!

Thai Cooking Class Menu #2

Menu includes:

  • Fresh Rolls with Thai peanut sauce
  • Traditional Pad Thai with lots of fresh garnishes

Culinary Skills Workshop

This is a very in-depth workshop that covers everything from knife skills to balancing flavours to platting.

Menu includes:

  • Fresh sesame-lime noodles
  • Your perfectly cut and stir-fried vegetables (everyone prepares their own)
  • Plus, a “toppings bar” with lots of fresh garnishes so you can create your new favourite dish!

Date: Sunday, May 31st

Time: 2:30pm-5pm

Spring Dinner!

A bright and fresh menu to bring in Spring

Menu includes:

  • Pear & endive salad with white wine vinaigrette
  • Spring risotto with asparagus & peas
  • Lemon chicken skewers
  • Strawberry rhubarb shortcakes with whipped vanilla cream

Frequently Asked Questions

I can accommodate most allergies/intolerances/dietary preferences in most of the classes. Please email me: shauna@thelivewellco.ca just make sure that I can for the specific class that you are looking to take.

I don’t have an online option for you to join a waiting list but please join my mailing list and I will send out emails as I open new classes for registration and/or if a spot opens 🙂

I haven’t quite figured out how to master our e-mail service - but your emails from me will most likely be in your junk mail if they aren’t in your inbox.

“No refunds permitted. However, reservations can be transferable to family or friends”, is my “policy” but I am a very easy going person. 🙂 If you need to cancel 14 days prior to a class, then please email me and I will do my best to fill that spot. If I can fill that spot, then I will gladly give you a refund. If it is within a week of the class, then I’m really sorry but I only have 12 seats in each class and I can’t offer a refund or credit, BUT I can put you on a list that if anyone else needs to cancel another upcoming class, you can have their spot if you would like.

Depending on the class, I might be able to take one more. My culinary skills class for example is a very independent class that can have an extra person in it. My Italian classes however, I am pretty sticky on only having 12 in them. Doesn't hurt to ask! Email me at shauna@thelivewellco.ca

*I can take up to 20 people in my Private Cooking Classes.

Unfortunately I just don’t have the time at the moment to teach small private classes (unless I charged more than I would comfortably want to), because I now have 3 kids at home and am trying to ensure I have lots of time with them. I also think that more than 20 people in the market kitchen is too crowded. So unless you would like a demo class (or me to come to your venue for a “lunch and learn” type format), then I can only teach up to 20 for a full meal in the market kitchen. We could however, do 2 or 3 sessions in a day if that works for your large group.

ALL of my classes are completely hands-on with lots to eat and learn! I feel like the best way to really learn is to prep and make things yourself. We will work together to prep everything (I go over knife skills and methods as we go), then we will cook and eat as we finish each course.

No, you don’t need to bring your own knife or tools. Everything will be all set up and ready to go when you get there. You will want to wear comfortable shoes and clothing because we will be standing and cooking for most of the class.

  • Culinary Skills Workshop
    • This is the most in-depth workshop we teach! 3-hours of knife skills, cooking methods, balancing flavours, plating techniques and lots more! Great for all ages!
  • All you can eat Sushi Workshop
    • Learn all about prep, knife skills and rolling. Then make your own sushi, garnishes and sauces. Finish up with a feast that includes; tempura vegetables, lots of sushi and steamed salty edamame & spicy garlic sesame edamame.
  • Thai Cooking Class
    • Fresh rolls with Thai peanut sauce, traditional Pad Thai with garnishes, Panang curry with chicken, and mango coconut sticky rice
  • Bento Box Cooking Class
    • Garden salad with a Japanese inspired dressing, crispy tempura vegetables, sushi rolls, handmade dumplings (Gyoza) with a delicious dipping sauce, mango pudding
  • Italian Cooking Class -Menu 1
    • Panzanella Salad, homemade gnocchi in a creamy pesto sauce with cherry tomatoes, cannoli’s with a creamy limoncello filling with crushed pistachios
  • Italian Cooking Class -Menu 2 
    • Crostini with artichoke pesto, fresh pappardelle pasta with Bolognese sauce, lemon panna cotta with fresh berries
  • Date Night Cooking Class
    • Sun-dried tomato baked brie with toasted baguette, red wine braised pork back ribs with creamy roasted garlic mashed potatoes and lemony greens, flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis

  • Custom Class
    • If you’ve seen any of our class menus on the site or would like to work with Chef Shauna to create a custom menu for your group, then please choose “other” in the drop down section and she can work with you to create a custom cooking class for your group.

  • Private Cooking Class Rates:

       

  • Locations:
    • The Covent Garden Market Kitchen (up to 20 people)
    • At a home, workplace or venue of your choice (number of people and menu depends on kitchen and space)
  • Payment:
    • We can send the organizer an invoice for the full amount or we can send out individual invoices to the class participants. Payment can be made via the invoice with a credit card, by etransfer, cash, or cheque.
    • Payments must be made at least 48 hours in advance, so Chef Shauna can plan groceries.
  • Bookings:
    • Private adult Cooking Classes can be booked on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. An afternoon class would be 2:30-5pm and an evening class would be 6:30-9pm.
  • Notes:
    • If you are an elementary or high school teacher or non-profit organization, Chef Shauna volunteers her time and brings the ingredients 2-3 days per month. Usually knife (culinary) skills is taught but menu can vary based on number of students/age. These typically book up 6 months in advance.
